Our Staff & Advisory Board
Chris Jonason has over 30 years experience in the horse industry. She received a certificate from The American Farriers Association in 1980 after going to a year long Farrier program at South Puget Sound College. She then ran her own business, CJ’s Horseshoeing, for 15 years. During this time she worked in many different areas of horsemanship including galloping, training and horse outfitting and guiding in the mountains of Washington state. Chris made the transition to barefoot trimming in 2003 after having hoof problems with her mustang, Luna. He was not doing well in traditional shoes and his feet were becoming misshapen and thin soled. Prior to shoeing he had had classic hard, strong mustang feet from life on the range. After using Pete Ramey’s barefoot methods, Luna finally turned around and started to thrive without shoes. He, and all of Chris’ other horses, are still barefoot. Chris ran another barefoot trimming business for 2 years before giving it to here apprentice. Chris is motivated to continue to use these methods and other new techniques to insure the most holistic approach to horse welfare. She continues to be an innovator in the area of natural horsemanship by mixing different types of infrared and barefoot methods, while keeping a sharp eye out for new developments in the industry.
